10 Most Requested Features for a DIY Home Video Security System -The Lorex LIVE SD7 (LW2702)
Your home security is important to you, so you start thinking of using a video security system for your home. Many questions arise immediately. What type of system should I use? Is it expensive? Who will install it? Could I install it myself? Do I need to run cables through the house? Will I be able to record and review video? Can my family use it?

The advances in technology have greatly simplified the selection and use of this type of systems. After reviewing several systems, I found one that meets the requirements: the Lorex LIVE SD7 (LW2702) Wireless Digital Security System. It provides:
- Two color, weatherproof outdoor cameras. You can monitor, for example, your front door and your backyard (can also use the LIVE SD7 LW2702 cameras indoors if you need to).
- A 7-inch LCD color monitor that you can place inside your home on any flat surface, or mount it on a wall or underneath a counter using the included mounting kit.
- Digital wireless connection (no video cables) to securely transmit the images from the cameras to the receiver-monitor. The LIVE SD7 LW2702 offers a 100% interference-free transmission. In an open field (with line of sight), it has typically a range between 250 to 450 feet. In a closed environment -such as an interior of a house, the range is between 100 to 150 feet depending on the existing objects.

I reviewed the ten most requested features for a DIY home video security system and an actual system that meets them, the Lorex LIVE SD7 (LW2702). It doesn't use video cables but it is secure and reliable. It can perform advanced recording to a digital card and the family can use it easily. It is high quality and popular, but not expensive.

Is videotaping legal with your DIY Dascham (Insurance/Police)?
In the last year I've purchased a flash-based Video camera and have used small adhesive brackets to mount it to my dashboard. Its not concealed in any way and is easily identified as such.
Is it okay for me to record myself and others on the road, and even use the video for insurance claims or to contest traffic tickets? The camera "can" also record audio, and would pick up whatever an officer would say if he were at the driver's side window.
As an attorney, I'm almost certain that it's legal. You would have to check your state laws to be sure, but I've never heard of a crime for videotaping in public (which is what you're doing). The only real concern I can think of is whether it obstructs your view while driving, in which case it's possible for the officer to hit you with a traffic ticket for having an obstructed view...but even that could probably be well-defended in court.
