Most cameras are mounted to take footage of a specific area without moving but there are cameras that you can control to zoom in on objects and tilt or pan for a better view of an area. These are called PTZ cameras.
Determine if you want your security camera to be wired or wireless. Wired cameras need to be planned in such a way that you know where the wires are running and should be labelled accordingly. Wireless cameras are easier to install because they do not require complicated wiring. Many models are both battery operated and mains powered.
Identify what shape and form of camera you would like to use. Your options are vast so it is important to also consider the specific purpose the camera will be used for. You can opt for bullet cameras, dome cameras, box cameras or hidden cameras. Hidden cameras are very popular for home use because it can take any shape or form.
Also consider where you plan to install your cameras and when you will be using them. If you plan to install them outside, it is best to purchase cameras that are made to be weather resistant and tamper proof while ensuring you also purchase the necessary housing. If you only plan to take footage during the evening, then infrared and night vision cameras are the best equipment for you.
Lastly, ask yourself how many cameras you plan to use. This can be from one to as many cameras as you like provided you have the necessary equipment to accommodate all of them. Be careful not to get ahead of yourself by buying a lot of cameras that you will not even need. Only purchase what is necessary.

How to record live video from analog cctv camera to laptop?
I have an anlong underwater cctv camara. I wish to capture and record the real time video of seafloor. I still dont know that what kind of hardware and software is needed for this. If anyone has idea, please help

Could we have some more details, please? The make and model number of the camera for starters, but what about the recordings - how long do you need to record for and at what quality? Do you plan to record continuously or will the system be motion activated?
OK, that's pretty straightforward. You should be able to get a suitable analog / digital converter from any electronics shop - I saw one in a supermarket this afternoon for £15. Mostly, they're intended for converting VHS to DVD, but you should be able to capture directly from the camera.
BTW DO NOT Google for cam grab, my anti-virus software flags a trojan download when I try it!!!!
