Note: This product is not sold with a Hard Disk included. You will need to purchase a hard disk drive separately. The HDD inserted must be formatted in FAT32 if you want to connect the unit to a TV for file browsing, the HDD can also include an NTFS partition for simple external disk operation (via USB only), therefore to use as a stand-alone media unit we recommend formatting your entire disk in FAT32.

Also supports the copyfrees solution. Would be nice if the unit provided NAS support, but if you know telnet commands the unix cp command works fine. Their is a network copy command using menues from the remote, but what fun is that. The suplied software will only format a 500gb disk, haven't tried to format 1.5tb to fat32 using fat32format yet. Does not support NTFS for writes, reads work fine.

I have a digital TV box. It isn't DVR, but it has a USB port.?

Can I plug my portable Hard Drive into it and use it as a DVR?

what kind of digital TV box is it? Like the other said, the Dish Network HD receivers have external hard drive functionality. You'd have to get that feature activated, which would be a one time cost of $39, but in theory, yes, after activation, you could connect your external hard drive, to your hd non-dvr receiver (most HD models), and be able to use the DVR functions.

As I mentioned, this will work with most Dish Network HD, non-DVR receivers. It WILL NOT work with all of them.

If your "digital TV box" is a dish network receiver, I would suggest contacting dish network (either by phone, or by chat at their website: http://www.dishnetwork.com) and asking them the specifics and requirements for the external hard drive
