This powerful whole house monster power voltage stabilizer once installed, will provide a convincing protection against a wide range of input voltage variations. Learn more regarding how to build an automatic voltage regulator stabilizer (step up / down 2000 watts).
In response to the repeated asks from the readers I designed the circuit of this automatic voltage regulator stabilizer (step up / down 2000 watts) which is able to control high input voltage variations through four discrete steps. It will keep the output voltage strictly in between 200 to 250 volts against input extreme voltages of 175 to 300. If you want to get a normal voltage output at much lower voltages than 175 then you may go on to modify the circuit appropriately just by repeating the stages of the circuit and by replacing the existing power transformer with one having a few more extra tappings. The transformer is preferably made to order, with windings as per the specifications provided in the parts list.
Now let's move on to study how the circuit actually functions.
Circuit Description

The circuit of this highly efficient power voltage stabilizer is quite simple to understand, it works in the following way:
Transistors T1 to T4 along with presets P1 to P4 are all configured as voltage level sensors. The presets of each of these stages is adjusted separately for the transistors to sense and conduct at particular voltage levels.
The next stage comprises IC 4093, the four gates (N1,N2,N3,N4) of which have been wired as inverter buffers. Diodes D2----D7 perform a very important function of allowing only one of the gates to be switched ON at any instant, irrespective of the conducting transistors.
The outputs from the above gates are fed to the relay driver stages, each consisting of a transistor and a relay.
The moving contact of each relay is connected to the different relevant tappings of the power transformer.
The N/O contact of each relay are all connected together into a common link and forms the HOT end of the output to the appliances.
Preset P1 is set to make T1 conduct at around 200 input mains voltage, P2 is adjusted to make T2 conduct during input voltages of 225 volts. Similarly P3 and P4 are both set to make T3 and T4 conduct at 250 and 275 volts respectively.
Now, during normal conditions i.e. at 225 volts, transistors T1 and T2 are both conducting. Due to this the inputs of the N1 and N2 are held at logic low.
IC 4093, Pin Out Diagram, ImageConsequently, the output of N2 goes into a logic high position, but, the output of N1 is inhibited from getting high because of D6 as explained above.
The out put of N2 activates the connected transistor and the relay. The relay contacts link the relevant transformer connection to the output load.
The procedure is followed similarly for the higher voltage levels when N3 and N4 conduct subsequently one at a time to make the relevant relays conduct and connect the corrected voltage tappings to the output.
