How could the force of gravity is used to speed space travel?
like going from Earth to Mars, etc. What about going from solar system solar system? any hunches or ideas? what speeds can generate the sling shot effect?
The power of gravity is already used (And has been used for decades – from the first space travel). We physically can not build large enough rockets to launch trajectory direct large spacecraft and probes (and certainly strong for manned spacecraft). What we do is a low-power to put off the ship in orbit then using slings. The most common on Earth, Venus, Venus, Earth, leaving the giant planets and then use the giant planets deep in the outer solar system (As Horizon used to go to Pluto). The first Voyager and Pioneer probes did the same. This is why there are joint launch windows (not based on time) When the sling shotting planet is not in the position at that time the launch has to be delayed until it is. We also use this same gravitational energy to slow orbiting spacecraft down (use to catch a lot of speed if you can not slow down again – and not carry anywhere near enough fuel / power to the engines – Engines are to operate only)
