How Weather Radar Assists Travelers And The Aviation Industry
International weather radar is a crucial tool for travelers and the aviation industry. Understanding and tracking the weather is extremely important to the aviation industry because tracking severe weather allows airports and the aviation committee to help flights avoid bad weather. The aviation industry needs storm tracking software and an international satellite subscription in order to know when and to cancel flights, when to close airports, and when to resume business as usual.
Two of the most common causes of plane crashes and emergency landings are weather related. Downdrafts are one of the most common and dangerous forms of severe weather for the aviation industry. Icy runways and ice on the wings is also a huge issue for aircraft. Airports and airlines must use sophisticated weather radar to track storms and weather.
Downdrafts occur during severe thunderstorms. Put simply, a downdraft is a condensed, rapid moving, column of air that shoots air downward. It is basically a wind that goes straight down. Downdrafts occur at low latitudes around strong storm fronts. For this reason, planes taking off and landing in or around thunderstorms are at risk. Downdrafts are somewhat unpredictable, so airports need sophisticated local weather radar to monitor localized storm events. They also need international weather radar and an international satellite subscription to be aware of national and global trends to predict weather in the future. This type of sophisticated meteorology is essential to passenger safety.
Ice is also a huge problem. An icy runway makes landings and takeoffs difficult or impossible. Likewise, ice on the wing can be very dangerous. Because of this, airports and airlines must be aware of severe winter weather, cold fronts, and winter storms. Winter storms are a major factor in the importance of international weather storm tracking. As a major storm approaches, an airport needs to make significant preparations to deal with the storm. Think about the amount of paved area that would need to be plowed and salted at a major international airport. Obviously weather radar plays a huge roll in the aviation industry and is a huge factor in passenger safety.
